In this video, we’re going to talk about the best fasting practices to avoid some of the dangers associated with prolonged fasting. Ideally, you want to ease into a fast gradually to allow your body time to fully adapt. The goal is to get your body to run on fat by combining keto and intermittent fasting.
Start with a shorter fast of around 12 hours. Work your way up to 18 hours and then 20 hours. 20 hours of fasting is a great option for many people! If you fast for 20 hours, that gives you a 4-hour eating window. When you consume 2 meals, it’s easy to make sure you get all of your nutrient requirements.
Eventually, you can work up to 23 hours of fasting and one meal a day if you would like. A 23-hour fast is beneficial if you want to improve your metabolism, lose stubborn weight, or improve insulin resistance.
If you want to fast longer than 24 hours, you must have a nutritional reserve. You have to make sure that you have enough electrolytes or you run the risk of fainting.
