Tools: $400 Worth Of Bergeon Tools And Supplies
chapter index:
00:00 I unbox $400 of tools and supplies from Bergeon
09:18 I introduce the Bermi Transparent watch
11:15 I estimate $1,000 to $1,500 needed for basic watchmaking tools and supplies to get started (including the big three costs: a microscope, a timegrapher, and watchmaker's oils)
11:50 I test the Bermi on the timegrapher before opening it so I can compare it with after I close it again to see if I did any invisible damage to the movement (another useful application of the timegrapher)
15:33 I open the Bermi case back
16:23 I examine the Bermi under the microscope
26:12 after ten minutes of examining the Bermi with its rear crystal removed I still can't figure out how to remove the transparent case holder and movement
29:05 I decide to only clean the back crystal and its bezel out of fear of destroying the watch if I continue trying to remove the movement
31:23 I ultrasonically clean the rear bezel and rear crystal
34:18 I use metal polish to clean the bezel and remove extensive corrosion and oxidation from it
38:00 I talk about Patek Philippe as I reassemble the Bermi and make a comparison with respect to the care I feel for any old watch
42:11 I show off the recased Bermi - it looks only slightly better than when the video began as a result of only cleaning the back bezel and crystal - still, it's a cool looking old watch
42:35 I look at the Bermi on the timegrapher again and compare the results with the results before I opened it
46:11 final thoughts on the Bermi
46:52 conclusion, see you on the next one!
In this video I go over a bunch of items I purchased from Bergeon. I then attempt - and stop - the disassembly of a Bermi transparent watch for cleaning early to avoid destroying it.
Exercising this kind of restraint is a first for me. If it becomes a habit I may have to stop making videos about my mistakes.
On the other hand, I also want to demonstrate that I do (sometimes) know when to stop. Sometimes it's important to take it slow.
I will return to working on the Bermi after I do some more research.
Here's a link to the other video I did about the tools that I've been using:

And here's a link to the video I watched with reference to hand lifting lever recommendations:

My videos are for entertainment and educational purposes only. Critical / corrective comments and links to resources including other watchmaking channels are welcome.
