In this video, we’re going to take a look at different food combinations and how they affect insulin. Typically, you don’t just eat a carbohydrate, fat, or protein, you eat a combination of the macronutrients together.

Combining fat with carbs will cause a significant spike in insulin compared to consuming carbohydrates by themselves. When you add fat to carbohydrates, you exaggerate the insulin response. Donuts fried in oil, ice cream made with fat and sugar, and sugary yogurt are all examples of this combination.

Combining fats and protein does not cause nearly as high of an insulin response. Brie cheese, other unsweetened dairy products, meat, and eggs are a few examples of fat and protein combinations.

A carbohydrate and protein combo is very similar to a carbohydrate and fat combination. This food combination also causes a significant insulin spike.

The best food combination is fat with protein and a lot of vegetables!
