In this video, we’re going to take a look at ketone levels and what they mean. Ketoacidosis is when your blood is too acidic, which typically only occurs with type 1 diabetes. Ketones above 10 signify ketoacidosis.
Normally when starting a keto diet, ketone levels are at around .5. Ketones increase as you incorporate exercise and intermittent fasting.
As long as your ketone levels are below 10, you are in a healthy range of ketosis. Generally, there is no need to worry about ketone levels unless you have type 1 diabetes.
It is important to consume a moderate amount of protein while doing keto and intermittent fasting so that your body doesn’t ever need to rely on your muscles for energy. This also helps prevent the blood from becoming too acidic.
Most people doing keto and intermittent fasting won’t ever have to worry about high ketone levels. If you find that your ketones are close to, or above 10, check with your doctor to see if you have an insulin-related issue.
