In this video, we’re going to take a look at how high insulin affects your mood and cognitive function.

High insulin and high blood sugar can impair brain function and lead to dementia and atrophy of the brain. High insulin destroys the part of the brain called the hippocampus, which is important for memory.

Low blood sugar also has significant mood effects. Hypoglycemia causes irritability, anxiety, sadness, depression, headaches, migraines, and mood disorders. This is because the brain doesn’t have glycogen stores, it gets its fuel from your blood.

When you stabilize your blood sugar, your mood and brain function will greatly improve.

Insulin resistance causes an inability to absorb important amino acids that build neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and GABA. A ketogenic diet stimulates the neurotransmitter GABA, which reduces inflammation in the brain and throughout the body.

Combining intermittent fasting with keto greatly improves insulin sensitivity. This allows for the absorption of amino acids, restoring their ability to make neurotransmitters.

Intermittent fasting can even regrow brain neurons and build brain tissue. It also helps to reduce the amyloid plaque involved in dementia.
