In this video, we’re going to talk about xylitol as an alternative sweetener that can be used in place of sugar. Xylitol is a popular sugar substitute that has relatively no aftertaste and tastes very similar to sugar.

Not only is xylitol an amazing sugar alternative, but it’s also good for your health! Xylitol has a low glycemic index so it won’t affect your blood sugars in small amounts. It also reduces tooth decay!

Xylitol can cause gas and digestive issues in very large quantities. With a glycemic index of 7, too much xylitol can also affect blood sugars. These negative side effects are unlikely because you typically need to consume 50 to 65 grams of xylitol to experience any issues.

It is important to note that xylitol is fatal in dogs! Keep your xylitol on a high shelf so there’s no chance that your furry friend will consume it by mistake.

Be sure that your xylitol comes from a good source. Birch bark non-GMO xylitol is the best choice! Organic birch bark xylitol is always non-GMO. Some xylitol is made from GMO corn which has been exposed to the herbicide glyphosate. This is not the xylitol you want to consume!
