In this video, we’re going to talk about gastric bypass surgery. You may have heard about the benefits of gastric bypass, like reversing diabetes or weight loss, but why can’t you do this without surgery? I think you can. For those of you who’ve already had this surgery, I have some solutions to common gastric bypass complications.

Roux-en-y gastric bypass is the most common type of bariatric surgery. This surgery divides your stomach into two sections and re-routes your small intestine. Your stomach and small intestine will be much smaller after surgery. With a smaller stomach, you may have trouble digesting protein, killing pathogens, and absorbing minerals.

If you’ve already had roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery, consider adding apple cider vinegar or betaine hydrochloride to your diet to help digest protein. You can also try taking an amino acid supplement.

Side effects of gastric bypass include:
Nutritional deficiencies
Malabsorption
Increased risk of leakage
Scar tissue
0.5% mortality rate
Dumping syndrome

After gastric bypass surgery, you may have trouble absorbing fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and E, because your stomach is no longer acidic enough to trigger the production of sufficient bile. These vitamins are important for vision and bone health.

You may also have a risk of leakage, and experience pain from scar tissue. Take serrapeptase, which helps break down scar tissue and unwanted proteins.

As with most surgeries, roux-en-y gastric bypass comes with a risk of dying. Although the risk is small at 0.5%, it’s something to be aware of.

Dumping syndrome is also a side effect of gastric bypass. Dumping syndrome is caused by too much bile and results in constant diarrhea. If this happens, you can take medication to slow down your body’s bile production.
