In this video, we’re going to talk about why you may feel sleepy after eating salad. Your gut bacteria live on the fiber in your salad. If you’re not used to eating salad, and you eat too much, you overwhelm the friendly bacteria. This can cause you to feel sleepy after eating.

Some people say that the potassium in the vegetables is what makes you tired after eating salad. While potassium does calm you, it doesn’t happen immediately. It takes time for the body to extract potassium, so it wouldn’t cause you to feel sleepy immediately after eating.

Hidden sugars in your salad dressing can spike insulin and cause you to feel tired after eating. If you’re not consuming sugary dressing, it’s more likely that you’re eating too much salad, and the good bacteria can’t keep up.

To solve this problem, reduce the amount of salad that you eat at once. If you’re eating ten cups, lower it to seven. If you’re eating seven, reduce it to five. This should help prevent you from feeling sleepy after eating.

It is important to get your microbes adapted so they can release enzymes to break down the fiber, and go through the regular fermentation process.

Try gradually increasing the amount of salad you consume over time so that your body is able to extract the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients it needs.
