Do you ever feel like you experience brain shrinking, and you have brain atrophy? As you age, your brain shrinks by about .4 percent every year. This can lead to cognitive deficiencies like lack of focus, lack of concentration, and memory loss.

As your brain shrinks, you lose circulation to and within it, along with the ability for your brain to use glucose as fuel. People with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s especially lose their ability for their brain to use glucose, causing a lack of communication among brain cells.

Here’s how you regrow your brain:

● Make sure you consume sufficient B vitamins. If, for example, you’re deficient in B1, you could develop amnesia. B6 and B12 are crucial. Your brain is composed mostly of fat. Your nerves are protected by a fatty layer. Folic acid is also important, as is an omega fatty acid called DHA. Consume fatty fish and cod liver oil. You also need phytonutrients to protect against environmental stress.
● Lower your blood sugar. If it’s too high, or too low, or you have what’s called insulin resistance, you can experience brain problems, also called neurodegeneration.
● Reduce your stress. High levels of the stress hormone cortisol can damage your brain, and cause poor stress which also contributes to neurodegeneration.
● Stop smoking or consuming alcohol

If you don’t have full brain function; say, you’re starting to lose focus on concentration, you don’t want to run your brain completely on glucose. A little is fine, and your body can make its own when your brain needs it. Your brain doesn’t have the capacity to store glucose, like your muscles do. Instead, you want your brain to run on a different fuel called ketones. Your brain loves ketones! Ketones are produced when you’re in ketosis, on the keto diet. Ketones are the byproduct of burning fat.

As well, do intermittent fasting so you’re not eating as often. Fasting increases what’s called BDNF, a compound in your brain that’s like fertilizer for the brain! Keto combined with intermittent fasting will help regrow brain cells.

You don’t have to accept your brain shrinking!
