I usually talk about the harm of nutrient deficiencies, but in this video, I explain how excess nutrients can also be harmful.

In this video, explain why excess nutrients in high amounts can be harmful to you. In all my other videos, I talk about the harm of nutrient deficiencies, but in this one, I want to focus on the harm that highly excessive amounts can cause.

When studies were done on vitamin A, vitamin E, and other antioxidants, you have to understand that the studies were done on synthetic versions. When you take high amounts of synthetic antioxidants, you create a problem. Studies show that cancer is a risk.

Antioxidants work by giving up electrons to stabilize the free radicals that cause damage. If you’re taking a synthetic vitamin A, for example, it lacks the naturally occurring network of antioxidants. Thus, when a synthetic antioxidant donates an electron, it itself becomes a free radical.

Too much vitamin A will impair your vision. Interestingly, if you’re deficient you can also impair your vision. It can also cause bone pain, probably because of vitamin A’s relationship to vitamin D. When there’s too much, your vitamin D level will drop. In nature, these two occur in an even split. Excessive vitamin A can cause skin irritation too.

Excess vitamin E can cause internal bleeding, fatigue, and weakness. High vitamin D can cause hypercalcemia or too much calcium in your blood. The recommended daily allowance is meant to prevent rickets, but there isn’t much information about the effects of excess amounts.

Too much vitamin C can cause diarrhea. Iron is important to get in small amounts, but too much is toxic to your liver, brain, and heart. Excess iodine can create a hyperthyroid condition, yet not enough can create hypothyroidism.

As well, too much magnesium can cause diarrhea, low blood pressure, and an irregular heartbeat. Too much selenium can cause alopecia, a hair loss condition that is an autoimmune condition usually caused by a zinc deficiency. You could also develop dermatitis.

Excess zinc causes a copper deficiency, leading to problems absorbing copper along with a number of conditions including fever and gastritis. Or it may affect your collagen and thus your connective tissue.

You can see there’s a relationship among nutrients, and that just because a little is good doesn’t mean excess nutrients are good for you.
