In this video, I explain why there is a major zinc deficiency in India and Pakistan and the big health problems this deficiency creates.

Zinc is a micronutrient. A deficiency causes significant health issues, especially for women who are pregnant or lactating, as well as for young children. Zinc is a cofactor for more than one thousand enzymes (a type of protein). Proteins are involved with skin, hair, and nails, but also with DNA repair, detoxification, and building your immune system.

If you have a zinc deficiency, here are some health problems that can develop: diarrhea (which can also cause the deficiency), underweight, stunted growth, cognitive defects; and, the list goes on to include stomach ulcers, skin problems, low testosterone, and low thyroid. You could also develop inflammation or autoimmune conditions.

Why is there such a massive zinc deficiency? The top reason is because of consuming phytic acid (phytate), a naturally occurring compound in bran, rice, grains, and beans. It’s also in raw nuts, and in corn. If you’re consuming a lot of rice, especially brown rice, and a lot of whole grains, you’re also getting a lot of phytic acids. They bind with the zinc, creating a zinc deficiency. Another issue is if you’re a vegan.

The best source of zinc is animal products such as beef, seafood, oysters, fish, and lamb. If you’re vegan, or even if you simply can’t afford meat and are consuming mostly grains and cereals, you’ll get a zinc deficiency. If you have an infection, parasite, or microbes that are causing diarrhea, you can become zinc deficient.

As well, refined grains and refined sugars can cause a zinc deficiency.

If you know a woman who is pregnant or lactating, make sure they’re either taking a trace mineral supplement or consuming foods that are rich in zinc. I put a link below this video that you can check out for more information. Also, ensure that young children are taking a supplement that includes all trace minerals not only zinc.

Now you understand the health consequences of a zinc deficiency.
