Keto is enjoyable!

At one of my summits, a woman came up to me to say that her friend urged her to forget about keto, and nutrition. Because, according to the friend, “You’ve got to die of something, so you might as well enjoy yourself”.

This attitude makes no sense! It assumes that eating healthy isn’t enjoyable. But if you talk to anyone on keto, you’ll discover they’re satisfied eating wonderful foods. They’re just not consuming refined carbohydrates anymore. They’re eating eggs, fish, bacon, meat, and vegetables. They eat keto-friendly desserts. In other words, a lot of different foods, and they’re not deprived!

Plus, they’re not craving or hungry between meals. So what this person is missing is actually trying keto to see for themselves that they would enjoy it if they tried it.

Let’s talk about pleasure foods. When you start eating them, you feel really good, but it’s deceptive. I ate lots of them in college, and I got pleasure from them until I didn’t. Then they turned into painful foods. They caused gas, bloating, constipation, ulcers, and heartburn, and even gallbladder issues.

Pleasure foods increase dopamine, a neurotransmitter. But it’s kind of a trap. Dopamine gives you a sense of wellness and stress reduction, It’s an artificial sensation. Sugar will do that. When you consume sugar and refined carbohydrates, you’re kind of faking your body out. Every time you eat them, you need more to get the same sensation, because you’re addicted to them.

Eventually, pleasure foods no longer give them pleasure, because they no longer trigger dopamine.

The last point I want to make is that the way people die nowadays is actually very slow. We’ve gotten really good at keeping people alive, but not necessarily with any quality of life. You may get dementia or Alzheimer’s, and end up being trapped in your body for years.

Your longevity has everything to do with what you eat. Healthy eating is enjoyable if you know how to do it right.

Naturally, I urge you to try keto and eat healthy the right way!
