Are you on the ketogenic diet, and want to know how to get your spouse on board? I explain how in this video.

First of all, it helps to realize there are many different viewpoints about keto. Your spouse might not have the same perspective that you do. I recommend healthy keto, but they might be mentally rejecting it. So, first, find out what they want to accomplish. Is it weight loss, lowered inflammation, more energy, or focus? Keto can provide these results. So, focus on results.

then, keep it easy for them to implement. They need a win! So you might not want to jump right into the healthy keto version. You want to make it easy and comfortable with the foods they’re used to eating, but without the carbs. If we look at the difference between healthy keto and dirty keto, the macros are exactly the same. Low carb, moderate protein, high fat.

What really gets people into ketosis and produces results is the low carbs. That’s the most important part. If you’re going to go to Burger King, for example, and have a bunless burger with bacon, no ketchup, no fries, and no shake, but you have a diet Coke, that’s considered dirty keto. Whereas healthy keto, you’d be consuming organic vegetables, grass-fed beef, and an avocado.

Basically, there is a spectrum of keto. On the dirty end of the spectrum, the food is fairly low in nutrients. On the healthy end, the focus is on nutrient-dense foods. I like to start with people where they are in terms of their awareness and education level, which probably is more toward the dirty keto end of the spectrum, then slowly bring them along to the healthy keto side as they get results. But not before!

When they first start, they might not be interested in intermittent fasting. It might be too overwhelming. But as they move toward the healthy keto end, we want to add intermittent fasting because the combination of the two is extremely powerful. On the dirty keto end, I don’t recommend a lot of vegetables, but on the other side, 7 to 10 cups per day. The key throughout is to keep the carbohydrates low.

At first, have them be okay with conventional foods like meat, proteins, and fats, for example. Eventually, you want to switch them to organic, wild-caught, farm-raised, and the like. Even fast food is okay at first. Then you want to get food from farmer's markets and health food stores.

I hope you have success easing your spouse into the ketogenic diet.
