Lately, I’ve been talking a lot about vitamin D, but I’ve been neglecting vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin, and it can actually help inhibit vascular and joint calcification. It helps keep your joints and arteries from becoming bone.

Vitamin K2 functions:
• Vitamin K2 activates an inhibitory protein called the matrix Gla protein. This protein helps stop calcium from forming in the arteries and joints.

• Vitamin K2 helps form bone and makes the bones more mineralized. It makes the bones stronger.

• Vitamin K2 can help decrease insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is involved in damaging the arteries, which causes calcification. Insulin resistance also creates inflammation in the joints.

Vitamin K2 helps keep the calcium out of the wrong place and put it back in the right place. It also inhibits the very root cause of why it’s even there (insulin resistance).

You would want to take vitamin D3 with vitamin K2. If you were to take 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3, you might also want to take 100mcg of vitamin K2 (MK-7).

Foods high in vitamin K2:
• Animal liver (pâté)
• Fermented foods
• Natto
• Grass-fed meat
• Egg yolk
• Hard and soft cheese
• Salami
• Sauerkraut
• Grass-fed butter
