In Superior Iron Man, Tony Stark turned evil and added a modified extremis virus to San Francisco's water supply. He simultaneously released an app that activated the extremis virus, transforming users' bodies into perfect physical specimens. However, these effects were only temporary and could be reactivated for $100 every 24 hours.

The people became addicted but eventually ran out of money, resorting to crime to sustain their addiction. Daredevil discovers that Tony is responsible for the surge in crime and attempts to confront him but fails. Later, Iron Man wakes Matt Murdock with a surprise. Telling him that he gets to see again. Daredevil's excitement slowly turns to horror as Tony explains the effects are only temporary but he offers him a more permanent cure in exchange for his cooperation.

Matt refuses and tells Tony that he can’t play God but Tony explains that he’s not playing God, all this time he’s been playing Human. Iron Man berates Matt for his ungratefulness and then flies off. Matt quickly returns to New York to see his best friend Foggy's face with his own eyes once before the effects of the virus fade.
