Today, I’m going to share a recipe for the best homemade cough syrup and sore throat soother.

This fantastic natural remedy for a cough and sore throat contains manuka honey, lemon, apple cider vinegar, and water. The active ingredient that produces the most benefits is manuka honey.

Manuka honey is a specific type of honey that contains various natural chemicals that create all sorts of beneficial effects.

Even though manuka honey can affect your blood sugar, it can help you in so many different ways. In one study, manuka honey worked better than an antibiotic and certain medications for coughing. It has also been shown to decrease the symptom of a sore throat.

Other benefits of manuka honey:
• It may help with all types of burns
• It’s great for wound healing, ulcers, and bed sores (and is even an FDA-approved treatment for wound healing and bed sores)
• It has anti-allergy effects
• It has anti-inflammatory effects
• It can help inhibit an upper respiratory tract infection
• It has antithrombotic effects
• It supports the immune system
• It can help inhibit strep bacteria
• It may help with gingivitis and periodontal disease

You shouldn't include manuka honey as a regular part of your diet because it contains a lot of sugar. However, for a cough or sore throat, you may want to give it a try.

Here’s how to make homemade cough syrup.

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp ACV (apple cider vinegar)
2 Tbsp lemon juice or one blended lemon
2 Tbsp manuka honey
8 oz water

Directions:
Add all ingredients to a large jar and put the lid on. Shake the mixture and keep it in the refrigerator. Take one shot (around 1.5 oz) of the remedy at a time—you can do this several times per day. Don’t heat this mixture.

Another great home remedy for a cough or sore throat is hot slippery elm bark tea with one tablespoon of manuka honey. Just be sure to wait until the tea has cooled slightly to add the honey.
