The effects of the war in Ukraine continue to be felt in Russia. A power outage in the Shushary district of St. Petersburg and Pulkovo Airport yesterday evening left the region in darkness after mysterious events.
According to the Latvia-based independent Russian news outlet, Telegram channels reported that an hour before the blackout, residents heard a loud noise and saw a bright light. Following this event, the electricity went out and there was no water supply in the area.
A channel called Ostoronozhno, Novosti reported that locals saw a flash in the sky and heard an explosion about half an hour before the blackout.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on this mysterious incident. However, such incidents are interpreted as a reflection of Russia's security concerns on its borders due to the war in Ukraine.
Pulkovo Airport confirmed that the power supply in the departure hall for domestic flights was cut, but the backup power supply in the building was activated. The power outage did not cause any delays to flights.
