You may have seen my video from 1-2 weeks ago about applying for TWO credit cards at the same time (that is, two in the same day). One of those credit cards was the U.S Bank Altitude Connect Visa Signature. I wanted it for the welcome offer to earn 50,000 points after spending $2K in the first 120 days. That signup bonus is worth $500 towards travel or cash back, and the $95 annual fee is waived in Year 1. It's also got a great 'general purpose' rewards category of 4X points for travel (and 4X on gas).

Unfortunately, U.S. Bank denied my application.

The reason…

“Maximum amount of unsecured credit already available.”

In other words, I already have the maximum amount of credit that U.S. Bank is willing to lend me at this time. This was likely due to my overall profile, including credit score, income level, debts owed, and more. There wasn’t a way for me to know this prior to applying. Normally, this wouldn’t be much of an issue if I could use some existing credit from one of my other U.S. Bank cards to open this new one. But, U.S. Bank does not allow this in my experience. When I called the U.S. Bank reconsideration line to ask about this, I was simply told “no.”

So…I got stuck and had to accept the decision for now!

Regarding my relationship with U.S. Bank, it was as follows…
- 1 personal checking account, 1 personal savings account, 1 business checking account, 2 personal credit cards, 1 business credit card.

That said, I also learned the U.S. Bank pulled Experian and used the FICO 9 Score model (my score was 779 as of 5.11.2023).
