Stella, our maremma, is fine with all the birds we’ve left alive in the property but is playful with the guinea fowl when we are home. A playful livestock guardian with birds can have deadly consequences.
So I’m refining her training and she has strict supervision with the guinea fowl. She’s fine with the geese and chickens.
I teach her by sitting in a way I want her to be with the guinea fowl, calm and relaxed. She’s learning the ‘leave it’ command. I aim for more praise than correction. It’s working well but she’s not trust worthy with the guinea fowl for the time being.
