China sent 10 automakers to the Munich Auto Show, surpassing the host Germany. Chinese state media claimed that 41% of the exhibitors came from China, and the most prominent Chinese automaker was BYD, which rented the booth across from Mercedes Bentz and stole the show. However, things don’t look as good for BYD in China. In June, its Xi’an manufacturing facility had a major fire. Last November, the BYD factory in Huizhou, Guangdong also erupted in fire.
