The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is considered one of the most inclusive intergovernmental platforms in the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP works closely with its 53-member states and 9-associate members, in promoting cooperation as well as providing technical assistance and capacity-building services to tackle sustainable development challenges facing the region. So, how does ESCAP support ASEAN and contribute to the ASEAN Community Vision 2025? To better understand what ESCAP does and the many challenges that it faces, we speak with Mr Ruhimat Soerakoesoemah, who is currently the Head of ESCAP’s Southeast Asia subregional office.

The “ASEAN in Practice” podcast aims to invite practitioners from around the region that have spent many years working on ASEAN issues and policies. Through this podcast series, we hope to gain some valuable insights from their experiences that will contribute towards the policy-making level in the form of policy papers and future research on ASEAN.

Guest Speaker: Ruhimat Soerakoesoemah, Head of Southeast Asia sub-regional office at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)

Host: Denis Hew, Senior Research Fellow, Centre on Asia and Globalisation, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore
