Alabama city files for bankruptcy as veterans and cops fight for pay

In 2020, an entire city in Alabama filed for bankruptcy and is currently striving for a fresh start, even though it still carries a substantial debt burden.

Fairfield, the city in question, is indebted to former employees, businesses, and government entities for millions of dollars.

After years of financial hardship, the city reached a breaking point in 2020 when it ultimately declared bankruptcy, the Daily Sun reported.

The situation had become so dire that they were even forced to release inmates from jail due to their inability to cover the cost of their meals.
