The first Rugby World Cup of the new Millennium took place among a changing backdrop in world politics - gone was the cheery optimism of post-Millennium growth and the 'dotcom' bubble, and to replace it we had the beginnings of what still scars us to this day - a bloody, needless war started off by the sad events of 9/11.

Still, amid these problems, the Rugby World Cup entered its fifth incarnation with some changes from the previous tournament and Georgia making their debut down under.

With the South having won all four Rugby World Cups to date, could pre-tournament favourites England (arguably the best side in the world then) finally strike gold and win the Webb Ellis Cup and secure a win for the North and for the UK as well?
