Ukraine's attack on the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol is recorded as one of the biggest blows of recent times. As a result of the attack, at least 9 people lost their lives and 16 people were injured. Russian generals are among the dead.
Ukrainian Defence Intelligence Chief Kyrylo Budanov gave information about the generals wounded in the attack. Colonel-General Aleksandr Romanchuk and Lieutenant-General Oleg Tsekov are in serious condition. "The number of wounded regular servicemen who are not members of the staff is still being determined," Budanov said.
Colonel-General Aleksandr Romanchuk was serving as commander of Russian forces on the Zaporizhzhia front and was promoted to the rank of colonel this year. Lieutenant-General Oleg Tsekov was the commander of the 200th Separate Guard Motorised Rifle Brigade of the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet Coastal Forces.
Following the attack, reports circulated that Admiral Viktor Sokolov, Commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, had died, but DIU Chief Budanov said they had no information about Sokolov's condition. Questions about the source of the missiles used in the attack remained unanswered.
