- Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. Originally a trio consisting of Eric Bell (guitarist), Phil Lynott (bassist, vocalist and main songwriter) and Brian Downey (drummer), the group known a first success in 1973 with Whiskey in the Jar, an adaptation of a traditional Irish tune. After the departure of Eric Bell, replaced by guitarists Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, Thin Lizzy reached the peak of its popularity by evolving its music towards hard rock. Released in 1976, the album Jailbreak was a great success, notably thanks to the song The Boys Are Back in Town and others that fans appreciated like Jailbreak or Emerald.

From the end of the 1970s to its separation in 1983, the group continued its journey with a loyal audience, but failed to establish itself among the media as a major player in the international rock scene. However, its musical influence is significant among musicians and can be found in most heavy metal groups with two solo guitarists, as well as in those resulting from the hard rock – funk fusion wave that appeared towards the end of the 1980s. Since 1994 , Thin Lizzy reformed several times without its leader Phil Lynott, who died in 1986, to give a few concerts and record a live album.
