Fiteracy Mini Education Sessions: How can a CGM assist with weight management?
Continuous glucose monitors are usually used for people with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes to assist them with monitoring their glucose response to the food they consume, or stress responses which also result in a rise in blood glucose.
I have used CGMs ( continuous glucose monitors) to assist with my own understanding of how my glucose responses are effected by stress, food and menstrual cycles.
When blood glucose levels are elevated ( above 6 mmol) and elevated for longer periods of time ( over 1 hour) , this means your system is unable to move into using ketones for fuel. Being in ketosis is the period of time that the body uses fat for fuel. This means it is difficult manage weight loss or maintain a health body weight if blood glucose levels are elevated for longer periods of time.
Wearing a CGM allows you to learn about your individual blood glucose responses and therefore learn the strategies you may need to adapt to assist with weight management or weight loss.
