Nik Huber Orca 59 demo Part 1

This is a guitar made by a small team in Germany led by Nik Huber. Named the Orca 59 for reasons unknown but he seems to favour a naming convention involving aquatic life. The 59 is a bit more straightforward and you can see what the reference is just by looking at the guitar.

It's a referencing of the 1959 Gibson burst and the guitar features a similar feature set including a full depth body: a Spanish cedar rather than mahogany , although it's the same family apparently and a carved flamed maple top. Two PAF style humbuckers, a Tune-o-matic bridge, mahogany neck and an actual Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. It came with a CITES certificate which I nearly chucked away as it was buried inside the outer container. I would have been arrested by the green brigade had I tried to cross a border without it but it would seem that crossing borders is not going to be a thing anymore anyway or so it increasingly seems.

It's a beautiful guitar, with a semi gloss nitro finish and a fantastic construction: a real labour of love I feel from the shop it was made in.

It doesn't sound slavishly like a Les Paul though and that's for the best. Gibson do that already. This one sounds much more resonant and balanced with great string definition across all registers and a really strong character.

I have tried to show the sound as best I can using a Twin Reverb and later, a Friedman Small Box pedal for some dirt. This demo is just of the standard tones and I will do another which shows the coil tap. It's reminiscent of a PRS but is its own thing and I haven't played much like it before.
