A few Truefire courses, a bass of my own and a Rumble 40. I'm a bassist now!

Well. Maybe it's harder than that to be honest but I'm going to try!

After trying out my friend's '69 Mustang bass, I wanted a bass of my own and my favourite band has always been The Beatles. Paul McCartney started using a bass he was given by Rickenbacker in 1964 and his Rickenbacker is all over Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour. He painted his Rickenbacker as was the fashion in the psychedelic '60's with a paint job seen on Magical Mystery Tour and stripped it later to natural as well as re-shaping the upper horn for use with Wings in the 1970's.
His bass was a 4001 with a toaster pickup in the neck and a horseshoe pickup in the bridge and had dot inlays and an unbound fretboard, so I wanted one like his. Chris Squire of Yes also had a bass like this.

The 4003S model was introduced to replicate the 4001 model but has a modern neck pickup and bridge pickup and a push pull pot for 'normal' and 'vintage' tones. The latter seems to cut the bass and give the 4003S a clattery tone like the original. The new model also has an upgraded bridge new for 2021 and vintage style knobs. Being used to a Gibson, the arrangement of the knobs is a bit confusing with the volumes on the bottom as you play the bass and tones on the top. I keep on getting mixed up !

I'm going into a Rumble 40 using the XLR output into my Presonus Studio 68C and Studio One and I run through various tones using a pick and then fingers and going through the pickups and normal/vintage push pull pot.

A beautiful Mapleglo Rickenbacker 4003S bought from Rickysounds in the UK. I love it!

Listen on full range speakers for the full bass effect!
