An envelope filter or, as some call it, an 'Auto Wah'. This is a great circuit and and envelope filter is a unique sound that I first heard on later Grateful Dead records. Jerry Garcia liked using these!

It's quite tricky to get to work as it depends on a signal level to trigger the sweep. This pedal has, from left to right: a boost level - actuated by the left footswitch, a width control to set the amount of variation of sweep, an attack control which sets the quickness to react of the output to the signal and lastly the threshold level which is has to be set to a level corresponding to the guitar signal. Too low and the effect never triggers and too high and it is triggered all the time.
Set it such that transients trigger the effect and suddenly you have it!
