Everything Comes by Promise

The New Covenant is a covenant of promise, making us heirs according to promise, which means nothing is contingent on us, but on God who watches over His word (of promise) to perform it. Looking at the patriarchs, we see how God deals with Abraham to Jacob by promise alone. We also look specifically at Jacob and Laban, two cheats working on each other and how God worked His purpose by promise in that fiasco. We see God even using their sins to work out His promises. Once you truly understand how the covenant of promise works, you will stop performing and start resting and leaving everything up to God now that we are heirs according to promise.
