Why Was Finduilas So Important to Turin Avoiding His Doom?

In the tragic tale of Turin Turambar, Gwindor, with his dying breath, tells Turin that Finduilas stands between him and his doom and that he must save her. Tragically he never does, but I’ve always questioned Gwindor’s words. Until now.
