In this video, I will tell you about ......Captain Thomas Sankara was a military officer and politician from Burkina Faso. He came to power in 1983 through a military coup and served as the president of Burkina Faso until his assassination in 1987. Sankara was known for his socialist and pan-Africanist ideologies, advocating for self-reliance and economic independence for African countries. He implemented various progressive policies during his time in office, focusing on education, healthcare, and women's rights. His government embarked on a campaign to combat corruption, improve agricultural production, and increase access to clean water and sanitation. Sankara also changed the name of the country from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, meaning "Land of the Upright People." Despite his popularity in Burkina Faso and abroad, Sankara's revolutionary policies and outspoken criticism of Western imperialism made him a target for opposition forces. He was assassinated in a coup led by his close associate Blaise Compaoré, who later ruled Burkina Faso for 27 years. Sankara remains a prominent figure in African history, seen by many as a symbol of anti-colonial resistance and social justice.
