Roger Cook's: 'The Devil's Work' - Satanic Abuse in the 1990s.

The Cook Report's 'The Devil's Work' is infamous as the peak of tabloid TV. Broadcast on 17th July 1989 it almost single-handedly started the Satanic Panic of the 1990s. Recent history shows just how many innocent people have been falsely accused, and how millions of pounds of wasted resources have been refocussed away from children in real need, to hunt down imagined satanic abusers. The 'hoax' for that is what it amounted to, has cost the UK many millions of pounds in unnecessary police action, social service investigations, government inquiries and misplaced funding for SRA projects chasing phantoms. This waste of resources also occurred in almost every other Christian country, particularly the USA where some innocent people spent time on Death Row before they were exonerated! "Almost every statement made by the Cook Report in The Devil's Work is a mis-truth or exaggeration. It is shocking to think that the majority of the THOUSANDS of mentally vulnerable people now claiming to have been abused by Satanists had those awful memories implanted into their brains by hypnotic induction from therapists they trusted to heal them using an unproven 'recovered memory' therapy which actually made their patients more ill. When the patients claiming to have been abused woke up and realised what had been done to them they started legal action in the U.S. for MILLIONS of pounds in damages. The problem is that some of them NEVER wake up and will die believing dross about SRA.

because both of these unnecessary and avoidable suicides were linked to fundamentalist Christians and therapists whom the Cook Report retained as advisers and promoted in their programme!
Today there is an industry of conspiracy theorists on the internet promoting and holding seminars on SRA - all benefiting from the big bucks they can cream off from various charities and government departments - It runs into the millions.

Cook's early programmes are indeed worthwhile and some of his media awards are well deserved; but the 'Devil's Work' was dangerous utter tripe from start to finish. These are obviously the types who are never going to admit that they were wrong, but here are the facts so you can judge for yourself:

(1) Despite the emotional bleatings and shock-tactics of those interviewed in The Devil's Work, not one of the 20 case featured as 'evidence' came to fruition as proof of SRA. Every single one of them failed in the course of time. There was no threat, their warnings were poppycock. In the intervening 27 years not one of the things they said was happening has come true. Moreover, iin the course of time the very children the Cook Report told you were being Satanically Abused have grown up, escaped the clutches of the Social Services and come back to tell their own story. The case of Laura, the four year old shown being 'exorcised' in Kevin Logan's Blackburn church in a major scene from The Devil's Work, gives the TRUE story of what happened back then and how she suffered from being exploited by the Cook Report and a lunatic mother. (2) The American Satanist Cook accused of child abuse in his programme had been exonerated as innocent BEFORE Cook broadcast the allegation. Yes folks the man was found innocent BEFORE the programme went out but the Cook Report went ahead and portrayed him as an abuser anyway!
