On June 4, 2023, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, officers were dispatched to a local Walmart to conduct a welfare check. A report had been received regarding a male on the premises holding a cardboard sign, and when approached and asked to depart, he became argumentative with the staff.

Officers spoke with the employee complainant and confirmed that they wished for Joseph to be trespassed from the property if he did not leave voluntarily. The information was passed on to probation and parole and a probation hold was placed on Joseph.

Joseph was transported to the hospital with an accompanying officer for further medical evaluation before being taken to jail. He was charged with resisting or obstructing an officer, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.
