WEX Wakeup: Trump barnstorms Iowa ahead of caucuses; NYC Mayor Eric Adams blasts Biden

Former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign headed to Maquoketa, Iowa, on Wednesday in an attempt to shore up support ahead of the Hawkeye state's first-in-the-nation caucuses next year.
The Iowa caucuses, scheduled for Jan. 15, are the first nominating contests of the GOP primary schedule and remain a crucial race for Trump to win to effectively end the Republican presidential primary and secure the presidential nomination. Although Trump lost the caucuses to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) during the 2016 GOP primary race, he still went on to secure the nomination.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams slammed President Joe Biden on Tuesday for not meeting with him during a three-day trip to the city. The criticism came amid an immigrant crisis that has overwhelmed the city's housing system. Biden, who was in town for the United Nations General Assembly from Monday through Wednesday, did meet with Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), who said the duo spoke about the crisis. New York City has taken in more than 100,000 immigrants since last Spring, 60,000 of whom still rely on New York housing.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) called on all 2024 presidential candidates to support his call for a 15-week abortion ban, saying, "We have to learn to stand up for our rights and make sure every single child in every single state has the same rights." Fifteen weeks is seen as a major landmark of pregnancy, as it is the point at which most physicians agree that a fetus can feel pain in the same way as an adult. All Republican candidates for president have asserted they are anti-abortion, but they have shared differing and, at times, wavering policy strategies over the topic. Scott left no doubt as to his position on Wednesday.
