Abram and Lot, rich with livestock, silver, and gold, traveled together from Egypt to Bethel, the place where Abram had previously built an altar to the Lord. However, the land could not support both of their substantial possessions and the large number of herdsmen, leading to strife.

Seeking harmony, Abram proposed a solution to Lot: they should part ways to avoid conflict, giving Lot the first choice of lands. Lot chose the fertile plain of Jordan, moving east toward the prosperous yet sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abram, on the other hand, settled in the land of Canaan, following God's guidance.

After their separation, God reassured Abram, promising him a vast number of descendants and granting him all the lands as far as he could see. Filled with faith and obedience, Abram relocated to the terebinth trees of Mamre in Hebron, where he built another altar to honor the Lord, symbolizing his deep, unyielding faith and devotion.
