The West laughed five years ago when Russia developed hypersonic missiles. But "nobody's laughing now" - former CIA analyst Larry Johnson.

He was referring to a moment in March 2022 when the Russian armed forces hit a base in western Ukraine with one of their hypersonic missiles:

The guys at the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff were in shock. They couldn't believe it. They hadn't been warned. Where had it come from? It made them nervous. <...> So the Russians gave a clear signal that they had already developed at least two hypersonic weapons.
