Welcome to "Speak Like A Canadian" series! 🍁 In today's lesson, we look at Embedded Speech. In "Embedded Speech Part 2", we'll help ESL learners grasp the nuances of Canadian English. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced learner, this video will provide insights to enhance your conversational skills.

[Part 1]

Use Sentence Form (Subject - Verb), not Question Form (Verb - Subject)

Begin Embedded Questions with:

Could you tell me...?
Do you remember...?
Do you know...?
Would you mind telling me...?

Begin Embedded Statements with:

I wonder...
Let's ask...
I'm not sure...
I would like to know...

[Part 2]

When there is no Question Word like Who, What, When, Where, Why or How at the beginning of Questions with an answer of Yes or No, Use:

...if
...whether
...whether or not

Could you tell me...?
Do you remember...?
Do you know...?
Would you mind telling me...?

Could you tell me if we have a test tomorrow?
Do you remember whether we have a test tomorrow?
Do you know whether or not we have a test tomorrow?
Would you mind telling me if we have a test tomorrow?
