Budwey's Supermarket undergoes new ownership in a new era

Budwey's Supermarket, a local favorite for more than 90 years, is gearing up for a new chapter and new ownership. This new page marks the end of an era for the historic North Tonawanda Store and its owner. For Frank Budwey, handing over the keys to his family business is a bittersweet transition, but at the end of the day, timing was right. "I was not going to let a conglomerate come in here and make this a corporate cold store and eliminate jobs," Budwey said. So, the next best option? Selling to a family friend, someone who understands the Budwey philosophy. For Frank, that's Grocer Brian Kusmierski. For the last 18 years, Kusmierski has successfully operated The Market in the Square in West Seneca and says this new venture is something he and his entire family take very seriously. "Our customers invite us to their dinner table every night. They depend on us to be there for them. We will continue to be there for them in the Southtowns and now we have the priviledge of being there for them in the Tonawandas," Kusmierski said. This new ownership will secure jobs for the North Tonawanda community and contribute an even stronger grocery option for residents.
