This video looks at the formation of ECOWAS [The Economic Community of West African States] in 1975.

We analyzed in-depth the Charter and we found that the primary aim and objective of the regional body was the economic integration of West Africa.

The Charter did not authorize or encourage any kind of intervention in the internal affairs of member states.

Therefore, the threat by ECOWAS to use military means to re-instate deposed President Bazoum of Niger is unprecedented and unknown to the Charter.
