Typical foods of the state of Bahia.
Bahia is a Brazilian state known for its rich culture, vibrant music, beautiful beaches and, of course, its delicious and unique cuisine.
Bahian cuisine is a mixture of African, indigenous and Portuguese flavors, resulting in dishes with intense and unique flavors.
Here are some of the most famous dishes you can find in Bahia.
Acarajé
Acarajé is perhaps the most famous dish in Bahia. It is a dumpling made from fradinho Bean dough fried in Palm Oil. The dumpling is then cut and stuffed with shrimp, vinaigrette, vatapá and, if you like, a lot of pepper.
Abara
The abará is a different version of the acarajé. It is a dumpling made with bean dough and baked wrapped in a banana leaf.
Vatapa
The Bahian vatapá is a very creamy dish that came to Brazil through Africans. Its main ingredients are coconut milk, peanuts, French bread, cassava flour, cashews, ginger and shrimp.
Caruru
Caruru differs from vatapá in that it is made with okra. It is a creamy food whose ingredients are okra, cut very small and cooked, dried shrimp, spices and palm oil.
Moqueca Baiana
The most traditional and consumed moquecas in Bahia are shrimp and fish moquecas, in addition, it has coconut milk, spices and essential palm oil as ingredients.
These are just a few examples of the delicious juices and typical sweets that you can find in Bahia. Each has its own unique flavor and cultural history.
Juices and sweets typical of Bahia
Bahia is not only famous for its salty foods, but also for its delicious sweets and juices. Here are some of the most popular juices and sweets you can find in Bahia:
Juices
Juices in Bahia are usually made with fresh tropical fruits. Some of the most common fruits used to make juices include Passion Fruit, cowberry, cashew, soursop, mango, and guava. These juices are refreshing and perfect for drinking on a hot day at the beach.

Banana jam with Sour Cream
This sweet treat is a delicious mixture of ripe bananas, sugar, ground cinnamon, grated coconut and sour cream.

The Bahian cocada is found in varied flavors and styles. Therefore, you can taste bolo de cocada, cocada mole, cocadinha, cocada Popsicle, Ice Cream and bolo cocada.
Quindim of IAIA
Of Portuguese origin, the quindim de iaiá is a typical dessert from Bahia that conquered the palate of Brazilians.

Sweet rice has its origin in Asian lands. Here, the preference was to replace milk and sugar with condensed milk and cinnamon.
Girl slime
Another Portuguese heritage is Baba De moça, a simple and delicious dessert prepared with egg yolks, coconut milk and condensed milk.
These are just a few examples of the delicious juices and typical sweets that you can find in Bahia. Each has its own unique flavor and cultural history. So the next time you visit Bahia, be sure to try these culinary delights!
