The follow up practical demonstrations of the humble missile and its journey to the blaze of glory!

Player made missiles are still grids and must conform to the same rules as other grids. Small Grid Warheads on a player made weapon (PMW) are limited in damage value and range. This also limits the destructive capability of the missile as a kinetic weapon because of the capped speed limit of the game.

That A6 Small Grid Missile does have a critical flaw of arming all of its Warheads once the Seeker Head Timer Block activates which caused the missile to mostly explode when hit with point defense fire. This does help limit cleanup by exploding the missile on detonation but also stops the missile husk from acting as a kinetic slug. Even if it were a kinetic slug, the damage was still minimal because the speed is capped and the mass of the Small Grid missile is small. Not to say that it could not punch through light armor, it can, the moving target was able to dodge most of the threat a small grid missile posed.

Drones can have some success if you use Railguns at near maximum range since it has the fastest projectile speed and the range can grant some level of safety by dodging. The Target Practice Ship was heavily armed and on a flight path which did seem to enable it to dodge a lot of incoming fire and missiles. I ended up cutting hours of footage because it was mostly redundant.

Even with a speed mod, the A6 missile lacks the thrust to turn to hit a moving target when it has accumulated a high speed. The problem becomes wanting more speed and needing a bigger missile to accommodate the additional thrusters to appropriately track a target.

Drones and missiles do seem to make good distractions for turrets which can allow a decisive strike against a large grid and visa versa.

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses, pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive.
