Do not receive everything you hear, read, or see. Always test the spirit.

1 John 4:1 reminds us to test the spirit. It includes everything, whether the people, words, messages, things spoken or written. It doesn't matter who's speaking or writing. It could be someone you have known all your life or a complete stranger. It is still necessary to test the spirits. Much of the time they are following the Holy Spirit if they are true Christ followers. However, even well-meaning people are used by the enemy. Also, you may not be meant to receive everything spoken over you or that you have heard and read. Some may be false words or may not apply to you.
