The UK Parliament has formally communicated with social media platforms, TikTok and Rumble, expressing concerns regarding comedian Russell Brand potentially profiting from their platforms. In a letter to Theo Bertram, TikTok's Director of Government Relations, Europe, the Parliament raised serious allegations against Brand, highlighting his substantial following of over 2.2 million users on TikTok. Following this, Rumble received a similar letter from Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, noting Brand's 1.4 million followers and inquiring if Rumble intends to follow YouTube's example in suspending Brand's ability to earn money on their platform.

Dinenage, as Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, mentioned that while Brand no longer appears on television, he has gained a significant following on multiple social media platforms. The committee is conducting an investigation into the culture of the industry, both past and present, and aims to determine if such a culture still persists. Dinenage expressed concern that Brand may profit from his content on TikTok and requested clarification on whether Brand can monetize his content and what measures TikTok has in place to prevent the misuse of the platform that may harm victims of inappropriate or potentially illegal behavior.

In response, Rumble expressed deep concern over the Parliament's letter, stating that although they condemn serious crimes, recent allegations against Brand have no connection to content on their platform. Rumble emphasized their commitment to defending a free internet and rejected the Parliament's attempt to control who can speak on their platform or earn a living from it.

YouTube, in response to serious allegations against Brand, suspended his monetization on their platform, affecting all channels owned or operated by him. YouTube stated that they take action to protect their community if a creator's off-platform behavior harms users, employees, or the ecosystem.

In reaction to the Parliament's letter, Jordan Peterson expressed his disagreement, stating, "This is not appropriate in any way, shape, or form."
