Devotion: What You Say is What You Pray
Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. 1 Peter 3:10 - For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Matthew 12:36+37 - But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Did you know all of your words are recorded in heaven awaiting your judgment day? Well, they are. Every last one. They will be played back in the presence of the Lord and you will have to answer for each one. That’s a scary thought knowing some of the things I’ve said and the things I’m still tempted to say sometimes. If all of our words eventually appear before God, we would do well to make every word a word of prayer. And if our words aren’t fit for the Throne Room of the Almighty then they aren't fit for prayer and thus they aren't fit for saying at all.
Next time you go to say anything, stop and think, “Is this fit to be prayed to the one and only Holy God?” Because, what you say is what you pray. If not now, it will be then, at the day of judgment.
