Daily Delivery | Kansas State’s founding as a Land-Grant Institution is noble

GoPowercat's Tim Fitzgerald discusses land-grant institutions on today's Daily Delivery.

The mission of Land Grant Institutions (LGIs) is to provide accessible and affordable higher education, conduct research and extension services to serve the needs of their states and the nation.

The LGIs were established in the United States through the Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890 to provide practical education in agriculture, science, engineering, and military tactics, and to promote economic and social development. These institutions were given federal land grants to fund their establishment and operation.

The mission of LGIs has evolved over time, and today they have broadened their focus to include fields such as business, education, health, and technology. They continue to offer practical education, research, and extension services to meet the needs of their local communities, states, and the nation. The LGIs are committed to providing education and opportunities to underserved populations and to addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges facing their communities.
