Who Is Attorney General Merrick Garland?

Attorney General Merrick Garland testified today before the House Judiciary Committee regarding President Joe Biden’s DOJ being politicized in its investigations of Hunter Biden and former President Donald Trump. Garland also responded to allegations of the DOJ’s weaponization against conservatives.
Garland made it known that he’s “not the President’s lawyer . . . or Congress’ prosecutor,” emphasizing that he works for the American people. But let’s not forget that he also works for the Executive branch. The President has the authority to tell the Attorney General to drop charges or halt investigations.
The topic of Hunter Biden’s Burisma connections and plea deal falling apart arose in the hearing, and Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-4) pointed out the obvious conflict of interest in appointing Special Counsel David Weiss to spearhead the Hunter Biden investigation.
Weiss was initially in charge of the investigation into Hunter’s felony charges. But he conveniently dragged his feet and allowed the statute of limitations to expire. And now he’s leading the latest Special Counsel investigation into Hunter. Yet Garland maintained that the DOJ has handled the Hunter Biden investigation properly from the start.
Garland also answered questions from Rep. Tom McClintock (CA-5) about the curious choice of Special Counsel Jack Smith to head up the investigation into Donald Trump. Garland defended Smith’s supposed sterling reputation, which McClintock shot down, referencing the IRS scandal involving Jack Smith (which we covered in our recent rundown of Smith’s dubious history).
Garland might be putting on a political show before Congress today, but the ACLJ isn’t. Recently, we filed a FOIA request to get to the bottom of the weaponizing of the FBI to target conservatives and Christians. We already know the FBI whistleblower testified that the DOJ was going after pro-life advocates after the Dobbs decision. The DOJ also labeled concerned school parents as “domestic terrorists.”
So is Garland really working for the American people’s best interests? Or is he a puppet of the radical Left? The DOJ’s recent behavior suggests a two-tiered legal system with a strong thumb on the scales of justice.
