Paul Murphy - 'The Good Christian' . A hundred million true stories in one song.

The title is ironic, of course.

This is a swipe at do-no-good church-goers - not at those who do do good. Sadly, I have not come across any of the latter, not in my entire life. I wrote this, first third of 2023. I put it aside actually, but then, in the space of a week, I contacted not one but 2 different child safeguarding personnel at 2 different dicoeses [dioci?], attaching photos of 2 bruised and injured young children. "We only deal with [trans: care about] children at our church" said one; "Oh what a shame" said the other. Two weeks later, one of those children was bandaged up from toe to almost knee...

Anyway, here's one of several versions I have laid down of this song. Although written as a 'pace' number, I wanted to get at least one slow version down, with a more ominous hint in the voice of the narrating repent-ye-er. But I keep getting so swept up in the sight of those injured and let-down children that I keep sliding into Ramones mode with anger at the situation. This is as close as I have come so far to a slower version, and is probably where I will stop trying. Musicians will note me pulling back on the reins at various points and fighting to keep to the slower tempo.
