From Pain to Power: Karl's Journey to Health and 75lb Weight Loss on a Carnivore Diet

Karl's transformation began in 2015, a year filled with stress from work, resulting in weight gain. In November of the same year, he experienced pain in his shoulders and hips while working on a ladder. This discomfort persisted and led to stiffness and agonizing pain. Diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR), a condition usually accompanied by weight loss, Karl faced a pivotal decision: take steroids to alleviate the pain or seek an alternative route. Choosing the latter, he explored dietary changes to improve his condition.
Initially, Karl attempted switching from white bread to brown bread as a first step towards healthier eating. However, it wasn't until August 2016 that he discovered the power of the ketogenic (keto) diet. Surprisingly, without any exercise, he managed to lose an impressive 3.5 stone, approximately 49 pounds! Over time, Karl's weight loss journey continued, eventually shedding a remarkable 75 pounds. Not only did he experience weight loss, but his energy levels soared, and his brain function improved significantly.
Motivated by his progress and determined to challenge himself, Karl set a remarkable goal for his 50th birthday – to complete a 10km run. Pushing beyond his limits, he accomplished this feat and felt an incredible sense of achievement.
In 2021, Karl had the opportunity to appear on the Joe Rogan and Shawn Baker podcast, where he shared his inspiring story. He discussed how he managed to overcome issues such as acid reflux and asthma, which are no longer a part of his life. Surprisingly, Karl's Polymyalgia Rheumatica has never resurfaced since adopting his new way of eating.
With his blood pressure under control, Karl has successfully discontinued his medications. People around him often remark on his robust immune system, as he rarely falls ill. Throughout his journey, Karl's wife has been a constant pillar of support, although his four daughters have not yet fully embraced the Carnivore way of eating.
Meeting a friend who had also overcome similar health challenges reinforced Karl's belief in this lifestyle. There's nothing quite like witnessing the incredible transformations firsthand. Friends and family members have noticed Karl's progress, which has inspired them to make positive changes in their own lives.
As with any journey, Karl has encountered both ups and downs. He typically practices a schedule of two meals a day (2MAD), enjoying coffee along the way. He ventured into a half marathon but faced knee pain, prompting him to explore weighted walking, covering an impressive 50 miles. Karl's love for trail running and his commitment to resistance training, with a focus on the X3 bar, have become integral parts of his fitness routine.
It's important to note that along Karl's weight loss journey, he discovered a lump in his torso which turned out to be a hernia. His initial doctor advised him to abandon his chosen diet, but Karl sought a second opinion from a physician with Ironman medals to their credit. This second doctor supported Karl's dietary choices and focused on addressing the hernia separately.
