The Lost City of Heracleion, an ancient Egyptian port city located 32 km northeast of Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea, was discovered underwater in 2000 after more than 2,000 years.

Its legendary beginnings go back to as early as the 12th century BC and it has many links to Ancient Greece.

Despite the tough working conditions, the drowned city routinely reveals wonders, including the remains of a temple, gold jewelry, coins, and the missing piece of a ceremonial boat.

The city was once the largest port of Egypt on the Mediterranean Sea before the foundation of Alexandria by Alexander the Great in 331 BC.
